Capricorn Full Moon Ceremony

For a few months now, my fiance and I have been wanting to do a medicinal healing ceremony where we devote a night to setting clear intention and internal digging. I wanted to hold off until after my Mama Tree Teacher Training, and we discovered that the day after I got back was going to be a Full Moon, so it seemed to work perfectly.

I prepared the space, our sunroom has grown to be our favorite room to host gatherings, practice yoga, and I knew would be perfect for this ceremony. I'd been wanting to set up an altar for my meditation practice, and would like to explain a bit about that process; for any religious people who just got majorly turned off by the use of that word, or anyone interested in what purpose an altar can serve!

I wanted to create an altar that would serve as a focal point in a sacred space for my yoga practice that I could come to and connect to, recharge, meditate. I used this site as a guide for creating an Elemental Altar for the Full Moon Ritual we wanted to have. We spent hours poring over precious stones and crystals that we felt would serve our intention for that night and finally decided on the following (Will have a post on crystals/stones soon!):

  • Lemurian Seed Quartz - crystals that are said to have been left by the advanced ancient civilation of the Lemurians to teach and guide us in this time. These crystals are said to have been programmed in their own formation with conscious connection and love. Lemurians hold and transmit messages of unconditional love, equality, and spiritual teachings. They are great for dream work and dream interpretation, particularly revealing potentials and actuality of spiritual growth that occurs in dreams.
  • Rose Quartz - Heart Chakra~ Known as the "Love Stone” Rose quartz helps promote self love, which in turn helps a person open up to attracting true love. This stone helps a person to feel true compassion and empathy for others. It helps promote forgiveness for oneself and others. This stone is good for the reproductive organs. It amplifies creativity and imagination. Rose quartz releases repressed emotions and soothes grief and heartache. It is also beneficial for the physical heart and circulatory system.
  • Selenite - a stone of mental clarity. This clarity enhances mental flexibility and enables strong decision making abilities.  It can affect every day life as full mental clarity into play to lesson confusion and mental disorientation. It is also a stone of truth and honesty. This promotes good business practices as well as honesty in other types of relationships. It brings associations and energies of the unconscious, instinct, subconscious, and emotional well-being.
  • Natural Agate - Chakra depends on the color of the stone. There are many different types of Agates. In general Agates are excellent at re-balancing and harmonizing the mind, body and spirit. It stabilizes and cleanses the aura while eliminating and transforming negativity. Agates enhance mental function, improves concentration, perception and analytic abilities. They are soothing and calming, healing inner anger and tension. Agates create a sense of security and safety.

We wanted crystals and stones with a very feminine energy, and felt drawn to the pieces we purchased. I have a beautiful golden plate from India that fit the stones nicely, and placed my Mala beads, given as a gift when I graduated my 200 RYT, which I use in meditation as well. My succulent that's been tirelessly growing for about 3 years reminds me that even a Desert Rose which can function on very little water, still has great potential to grow into a breathtaking beauty. Also, succulents grow wild in Ceuse, France, where we spent all of May/June rock climbing, so that plant has some stable roots in my heart. I lit my Nag Champa and filled a bowl with water to catch the ashes when we lit our intention papers aflame, and we were good to go!

We sat together and talked about what we intended to focus on and accomplish in this session, and started stretching. After about an hour, I wanted to do a meditation, and chose Sally Kempton's Chakra Cleansing Meditation. I've been learning more about the different chakras and how accessible and relatable their contents can be with all of us on a day to day basis, but they're widely seen as 'woo-woo hippie stuff', and many people associate much of yoga or these concepts as religious or 'unholy' practices. Really, that's a bunch of hogswash and if you really investigate these concepts on your own, you can see that really it's all about how we direct our energy... Which is still another concept that people are uneasy talking about. Which is fine! They're not there yet, maybe they'll get there, maybe they won't. No judgement there, whatsoever. I never thought I'd see myself as this woman standing before you, even a year ago (Rock on, so proud of myself for this strong, powerful woman I'm becoming.).

A common practice during a full moon ceremony is the writing of and release of intention. On one side of a paper you can write something you hope to let go of, release, or work on. It can be over the next lunar month, the next lunar year, whatever amount of time you feel you want to spend working on this.. And on the other, an intention that you hope to see come to fruition. Again, the time gauge is in your hands. This resonated with me so much, we can have so many hopes, fears, and dreams, but if we never voice them or allow them to come out of our Being, we haven't really liberated them, yet. I love saying things out loud, giving them substance, and space in my life, and have found that to be a very opening and freeing process. After we both did this, we discussed what we'd written, and held them to the fire. Fire has always been seen as a transformative and cleansing element, it was cool to do this together.

In all the flurry of everything going on, I didn't even realize that I'd set up my phone to record us burning the intentions, and when I remembered, Curtis looked at the phone and it'd been recording our conversation for nearly 2 hours. Thats a recording we can't wait to listen to in the future. We want to start doing this healing work much more often. I believe everyone deserves to get to their baseline functionality, and this type of ceremony really allows you to do that. To cast away your past, traumas, stresses, and get back to the clean, whole, perfect, pure Being that you are. That we all are.

It may take a while, but I truly do believe that it's possible, if it's something you aim to achieve.

Namaste!
